Vintage Photos Leach House Noted Prairie School architect George W. Maher designed this 1901 home for A.B. Leach on Scotland Road. This home reflected Maher's criteria for architectural design as expressed in 1887: "A home should have massiveness and solidity in order to express the idea of substantiality." Although the home no longer stands on Scotland Road, its original gardener's cottage still exists on what is now Vose Avenue. Note: an existing example of a Maher designed home is located on Lower Mountain Avenue, Montclair, NJ. (Private collection) Return to Vintage Photos |
